🔥 March 2026 Availability Alert
Spring Break dates are filling fast! As the water warms, the bite is turning on across the Santa Rosa Sound. Don’t miss out on the best inshore action of the year.
As winter fades in the rearview mirror, March 2026 marks the official kickoff of the spring fishing season in Navarre Beach. With water temperatures climbing into the high 60s, the “Spring Run” is in full effect. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a family looking for a Spring Break adventure, the waters surrounding the Navarre Beach Causeway are teeming with life.
Top Species Targeting in March 2026
This month, we move away from the slow winter patterns and start hunting aggressive, hungry fish moving back onto the flats and around the structure.
- The Sheepshead Spawn: March is the “Gold Standard” for Sheepshead in Navarre. These “Convict Fish” are stacked deep against the Navarre Beach Bridge pilings. We are currently seeing trophy-sized fish taking live fiddler crabs and ghost shrimp.
- Gator Trout on the Flats: The Speckled Trout are moving out of the deep bayous and onto the shallow grass flats of the Santa Rosa Sound. Look for them in “potholes” on the sunny side of the flats during the afternoon warming trend.
- Redfish on the Move: We’re finding Redfish schooling near the bridge structure and along the deeper docks. For March 2026, light tackle with a slow-retrieved plastic or a live shrimp under a popping cork is the winning ticket.
- Pompano Arrival: As the Gulf waters clear and warm, the Pompano begin their march along the surf. While we focus inshore, we often see these silver bullets moving through the pass and into the sound.
Expert Tips for March Anglers
To succeed in Navarre this month, you have to adapt to the transition. Here is the 2026 local’s playbook:
1. Target the Structure
In March, the bridge is your best friend. The concrete pilings of the Hwy 399 bridge provide the barnacles and crabs that Sheepshead and Drum crave. Position your boat up-current and let your bait drift naturally into the structure.
2. Master the Popping Cork
With the seagrass beginning to grow back, a popping cork keeps your bait hovering just above the “strike zone.” The sound mimics a shrimp flicking at the surface, which is an irresistible dinner bell for Speckled Trout in the Sound.
3. Watch the Water Temp
A 2-3 degree difference is everything in March. Use your electronics to find the pockets of warmer water, especially in the afternoon. Even a slight rise can turn a dormant flat into a feeding frenzy.
