Showintail Inshore Charters: Daily Fishing Report – Friday, May 23, 2025
Navarre, FL – Another beautiful day on the water here in Navarre! Showintail Inshore Charters had a fantastic day targeting Redfish and Speckled Trout across the Santa Rosa Sound. The bite was consistent, proving why the inshore waters of the Emerald Coast continue to be a top-tier fishing destination.
Today’s Highlights:
Our charters today focused on the shallow grass flats and deeper edges of oyster beds, and the action was hot! Anglers reeled in numerous slot-sized Redfish, with several reports of impressive trophy Redfish being landed and safely released, showcasing the health of our local fishery. The aggressive tailing action from these reds in the skinny water made for exciting sight-casting opportunities, perfect for both seasoned anglers and those on their very first inshore trip.
Speckled Trout were also out in force, with plenty of keeper-sized fish coming over the gunwale. The morning topwater bite was especially productive, providing some explosive strikes, and some “gator trout” up to 25 inches were reported!
Conditions & Tactics That Produced:
- Weather: Sunny skies and warm temperatures, with a light breeze.
- Water Temp: Around 76-78°F, ideal for inshore activity.
- Tides: The incoming tide was particularly productive for Redfish, while the outgoing tide in the afternoon also yielded solid action.
- Preferred Baits:
- Live shrimp under a popping cork continued to be an unbeatable bait for both Redfish and Speckled Trout.
- Chartreuse jigheads and DOA shrimp were highly effective for enticing strikes from hungry Speckled Trout, especially around oyster beds and tidal creeks.
- For Redfish, weedless gold spoons and topwater lures (especially early in the morning) also proved successful.
Captain’s Insight:
“The shallow grass flats were absolutely on fire today,” reported Captain Bryant. “The key was finding the active schools and making accurate casts. The 30 minutes before and after high tide continued to be prime time on the flats, with reds and trout on the move.”
Looking Ahead:
The forecast for the weekend looks promising for continued strong inshore fishing. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 24th, scattered thunderstorms are possible, but fishing activity is still expected to be high. Sunday, May 25th, brings mostly cloudy conditions, and with the New Moon phase approaching (New Moon on May 26th), we anticipate PRIME FISHING conditions!
