Redfish
Redfish are the main focus of all my fishing reports and this one is no different. 😂 The warmer weather over the last few days has had the redfish along the Emerald Coast of Florida hungry and ready. We have started the day off fishing deeper water ledges and around the bridges for redfish. While looking for the deeper schools of redfish we have been finding a mixing bag of Sheepshead, Flounder, Speckled Trout and saw small Snappers. Once the sun gets up and flats have had time to warm up we spent most days drifting the shallow flats along Navarre Beach, Escambia Bay and Pensacola beach looking for schools of redfish. The fish will be searching for food in the shallow warmer water.
The best baits for redfish this time of year have been bouncing shrimp on SlayerInc Predator jig heads. Keep the bait close to bottom and bounce it slowly. Make sure around the bridges you carry plenty of jigs your going to loose a ton of them to snags and break offs around that much structure. On the flats we have been throwing gulp and soft plastic on the same jig heads. If you get your jig in front of them with gulp don’t move it. Once the school reaches the area of your bait they will suck it right up off the bottom. By throwing in front of school and not moving the bait you have a less chance of spooking them.
Speckled Trout
Speckled Trout Fishing in Navarre Beach Florida have really been active with the warmer weather. The flats along Hurlburt Field AFB have been producting the better quality fish. Twitching slow baits like the MirrOdine 17 MR have been the best bait for slot sized fish along the grass beds.
The big Speckled Trout are starting to show up in the area. If your a fly fisherman or just looking for a chance at trophy sized Florida Gator Trout the next 2 months are the time to do it! Give me a call at 850-582-FISH and book a trip. Trips for trophy Speckled Trout fill up very fast so please book your trips soon. We try to make sure all large Speckled Trout survive and are released. These large trout are the breeders and are the future of Florida Speckled Trout fishing. If you catch a trophy trout we have a great service with Gray Taxidermy. You can forever have your trophy and help preserve the future of Florida Fishing.
Sheepshead Fishing In Navarre Beach Florida
The bite has been steady for Showintail Inshore Charters Of Navarre Florida through most of the winter. The local bridges and sea walls have held the most fish. Live fiddler crabs and shrimp have been the best bait. I use a small owner hooks and split shot weights so I can feel the lite bites. Sheepshead can be difficult to catch but once you get the hang of it you will no problem. Over the next few months the sheepshead will really make a showing on the beach side and local reefs. Some of the biggest I have ever seen caught have come during that time.
